This was a quick (and dirty -- literally) lesson for the last week before break. My students don't get enough chances to use soft pastels, but they lend themselves perfectly to this project where we're trying to convey the sense of glowing lights. In order to focus more on the color aspect of this work (and get it accomplished in one short period), I made a bulb-shaped tracer for each student. We also used gold metallic Sharpies for our wires this year -- a big improvement that allows the use of the black construction paper, too. Many thanks to New Hope Elementary art teacher, Sarah Finman-Jones for putting this idea in my head.
